US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, 78, early Wednesday (Nov. 6) thanked Americans for “being elected 47th president.” According to Fox News Decision Desk projections, Trump ensured victory after defeating his Democratic rival Vice President Kamala Harris in Tuesday’s presidential election. With only a few electoral votes remaining to officially confirm the win, Trump’s address in Florida was celebrated by a crowd of supporters, who greeted him with cheers and chants of “USA, USA, USA.”
“This is a magnificent victory for the American people that will allow us to make America great again,” Trump told his supporters in Palm Beach. “We’re going to help our country heal” he said adding that the result of the 2024 presidential election marks a “political victory” that the United States has never witnessed before. This will truly be the golden age of America,” Trump stressed.
At his victory rally, Trump hinted that Robert F Kennedy Jr would be handed a key healthcare role. “He’s to help make America healthy again,” Trump said. “He wants to do some things, and we’re going to let him go to it.”
Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, X platform owner and Trump mega-donor, was with the Republican candidate as the results came in. The win would make Trump just the second US president to serve non-consecutive terms, following Grover Cleveland, who served two terms in the late 1800s.
U.S. stock futures rose sharply in overnight trading as investors bet that Trump will retake the White House.
World leaders and top officials have begun to react to the unfolding results of the 2024 presidential election which could have seismic implications across the globe.
The Kremlin said that it would judge Donald Trump on his actions: “We will draw conclusions based on concrete steps and concrete words,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists.
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a news briefing: “We will continue to view and handle China-US relations in accordance with the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation.”
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote: “As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration to further strengthen the India-U.S. Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in a statement congratulated Trump on a “historic election victory.”
French President Emmanuel Macron, being the first Western leader to call him “President Donald Trump” posted on X: “Ready to work together as we have done for four years,” he said, referring to Trump’s first term.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on X: “Germany and the USA have long been working together successfully to promote prosperity and freedom on both sides of the Atlantic. We will continue to do so for the benefit of our citizens.”
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also hailed Trump’s victory, saying that Italy and the US had an “unshakeable alliance”, calling it “a strategic bond, which I am certain we will now strengthen even further”.
In a post on X, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis wrote: “Congratulations, president-elect Donald Trump, for your victory! Romania is a strong and committed Strategic Ally of the U.S. Through our joint Romania – U.S. efforts, we will bring peace and prosperity for both our countries and beyond, defending our common interests.”
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban congratulated Trump on X on “his enormous win,” which he described as a “much needed victory for the world.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also took on X: “Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America.”
Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdogan congratulated (on X) “my friend Donald Trump” adding: “I hope that Turkey-U.S. relations will strengthen, that regional and global crises and wars, especially the Palestinian issue and the Russia-Ukraine war, will come to an end.”
NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte said Trump’s leadership “will again be key to keeping our alliance strong.”

Trump surpassed the magic number of 270 Electoral College votes early yesterday after winning key battleground states and continued to receive congratulations from top officials.
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday (Nov. 7) sent a congratulatory message to Trump on his victory in the US presidential election, according to Chinese media agencies.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that communication between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump before he officially assumes office in January is “not excluded.”
Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva congratulated Trump and wished him “luck and success”.
“The world needs dialogue and joint work for more peace, development and prosperity,” he said.
Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba told reporters he hopes “to work closely with Mr Trump to take the Japan-US alliance and Japan-US relationship to new heights.”
South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa, told Trump in a message that he looked forward to “continuing the close and mutually beneficial partnership between our two nations across all domains of our cooperation.”
