ECONOMY
-In Q3 2024 Romania’s Gross Domestic Product recorded an increase by 1.1% for the unadjusted series and a decrease by 0.3% for the seasonally adjusted series compared to Q3 2023, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) data showed.
-Pensions should increase twice in 2025, namely after 1 January and after the end of March, according to the new pension law, Adevarul reported.
FINANCE
-Bucharest Stock Exchange launched revised corporate governance code for Romanian market with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) support: The code is applicable to all companies listed on the main market of BVB. The first year of reporting compliance with the new code is 2026, for the financial year 2025, BVB said.
-Salt Bank, the first Romanian neobank, triumphed at the prestigious 2024 Banking Tech Awards in London having won the award for Best Use of Tech in Retail Banking with the new digital bank boasting a completely digital banking solution implemented in partnership between GFT and Engine by Starling.
COMPANIES
-Romania’s Competition Council approved the transaction by which Qemetica S.A., Poland, intends to take over, including through the special purpose vehicle Qemetica US Silica LLC, USA, the activities and
assets related to the production and disposal of precipitated silicon belonging to PPG Industries Inc,
USA.
-Operating permits will be issued without a validity period for firms in trade sector, according to a draft law adopted by Parliament last month and promulgated by the Head of State now, Profit.ro reported.
-French retailer Carrefour, present in Romania with around 450 stores under various formats, is accelerating its development in a franchise system in the country, aiming to reach over 100 units operated by partners in the near future, from 33 today, Ziarul Financiar reported.
