CAPITAL MARKET MOVING NEWS

POLITICS

The European Council voted unanimously on Thursday (Dec. 12) to officially lift internal land border controls with Romania and Bulgaria as of January 1, 2025, making them fully part of the Schengen area.

ECONOMY

-Romania’s annual inflation rate increased to 5.1% in November from 4.7% in the previous month, marking the highest figure since August, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) data showed.

-The average net salary in Romania increased by 0.8% in nominal terms in October 2024 to RON5,268 (EUR1,059) on a monthly basis, the INS said.

-Net investment in the Romanian economy grew by 2.6% in the first nine months of 2024 , to RON130.953 billion on an annual basis, INS provisional data showed.

-In the first 11 months of 2024, a total of 42,312 housing units were put into use in Romania, fewer by 7,681 units compared to the same period of 2023, INS said.

FINANCE

-Patria Credit IFN SA, a non-bank financial institution part of Patria Bank Group signed an agreement with the European Investment Fund (EIF), via the InvestEU program, for RON290 million funding, raising the total value of the ceiling to RON495 million.

COMPANIES

-Romanian telecom giant Digi S.A., on Wednesday (Dec. 11) announced it is expanding its commercial operations in Europe and launching fiber-optic broadband internet, as well as mobile voice and data services in Belgium.

-Romania’s Competition Council is looking into the transactions through which Vodafone Romania S.A. intends to takeover Telekom Romania Mobile Communications S.A., and Digi Romania S.A. will acquire certain assets of the same company.

-CTP, Europe’s largest listed developer, owner, and manager of industrial and logistics properties by gross lettable area (GLA) announced that Leroy Merlin Romania, a DIY market player, has leased 8,800 sqm within CTPark Bucharest West.

-Bucharest-listed MedLife, the largest private healthcare provider in Romania, opened MedLife Medici’s Hospital, a multidisciplinary unit in Timisoara, following an over EUR25 million investment.
