ECONOMY

-Many companies in Romania will freeze investments in 2025, amid fiscal challenges and growing uncertainties about the evolution of the economy, according to a survey by the consultancy company Frames and Sierra Quadrant. Moreover, two out of three entrepreneurs will not open new lines of business and investments in 2025.

-In QIII 2024, the average income per household was 8255 lei and the average expenditure per household was 7012 lei, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) data showed.

-Romania’s meat production dropped in November 2024 for all animal and poultry species compared to the previous month, except for sheep and goats, where there was an increase of 4.45%, INS said.

FINANCE

-The National Bank of Romania (NBR) could keep interest rates unchanged during its first monetary policy meeting of 2025 on Wednesday (Jan. 15) according to Ciprian Dascălu, chief economist at BCR, Hotnews reported.

-The arrears of the consolidated general budget decreased 0.29% in November 2024, compared to the previous month, reaching 595.5 million lei, down from 597.2 million lei in October, the Ministry of Finance data reveal.

-There are 8,750 ATMs in urban areas and only 1,077 in rural areas of Romania, even though almost half of Romania’s population lives in rural areas, according to BNR.

COMPANIES

-The National Electricity Transmission Company Transelectrica has completed a project for the implementation of a metering and management system for electricity measurement data on the wholesale market, part of a broader investment in grid digitalization, with total financing for the entire project amounting to 88.806 million RON.

-Building materials producer TeraPlast has granted an EUR7.56 million loan to Polytech Industrie subsidiary, with a 1.3% interest plus 3-month Euribor (around 2.7%). The maximum repayment term is December 31, 2029.
