ECONOMY
-Romania’s industrial production dropped 3.8% in November 2024, in unadjusted data, compared to October 2024, and by 0.6% when adjusted for the number of working days and seasonality, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) data showed.
-The Romanian land market ended 2024 with transactions worth around EUR450 million, which is similar to 2023 level, despite a difficult climate marked by political and economic uncertainties, according to estimates by real estate consulting firm Colliers Romania.
-The National Bank of Romania kept its key interest rate unchanged at 6.5% on Wednesday (Jan. 15).
FINANCE
-The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) delivered a record €16.6 billion in investments across its economies in 2024, a 26% increase over the previous year. In Romania, the bank invested €77 million in 44 projects last year andd says the 2025 portfolio is a solid one, covering all economic field.
-Investment fund Fondul Proprietatea’s net profit in 2024 stood at RON339.4 million, after a loss of RON904.1 million in 2023, it said in its preliminary financial report to the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
-Poland’s largest lender, PKO Bank Polski, will start operations in Romania this year, as part of its foreign expansion strategy.
COMPANIES
-Romanian drug maker Terapia Cluj has completed its €1 million solar power plant project located on the company’s industrial platform.
-NXP Semiconductors N.V. has secured a €1 billion loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to enhance research, development, and innovation (RDI) across its semiconductor operations in multiple European countries, including Austria, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Romania.
