ECONOMY
-Romania continues to be among the countries in the EU with the lowest gross minimum wages, standing at 743 euro (approximately 3,700 lei) in Q2 of 2024, according to the latest edition of Monitorul Social, a project of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation Romania.
FINANCE
-The European Investment Bank (EIB) is lending €70 million to BRD Sogelease IFN, a unit of Romanian bank BRD Groupe Société Générale to increase financing for a range of businesses in the country.
-Romanian organic agricultural company Norofert listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange’s AeRO market raised RON 7 mln through bond issue to fuel strategic growth.
-Six out of ten Romanians allocate under 700 lei this year for Christmas presents, the budgets being similar to those of 2023, although the prices are higher by 30%, according to a survey conducted by tbi Bank at national level.
-Global neobank Revolut Bank UAB, which has over 4 million customers in Romania, has started the migration of customers from the Lithuanian entity to the Romanian one. It has also began issuing Romanian IBAN codes to the existing clients.
COMPANIES
-Romanian state-owned nuclear power producer Nuclearelectrica has called its shareholders for a meeting on January 22, 2025 to vote on approving the updated strategy for the continuation of the investment in the project for refurbishment works at Cervavoda Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1, which requires EUR1.9 billion investments, VAT not included.
– Hungarian state-owned company MVM, the second largest company in Hungary, and Germany’s E.ON Group reached an agreement for the acquisition by MVM of E.ON’s energy retail and customer solutions business in Romania, the companies announced. The transaction is expected to be finalized in 2025.
REAL ESTATE
-In Cluj, last year rents were 80% higher than in 2015, while in Bucharest the increase was 51% in the same period, according to data from the data base of numbeo.com.
