CAPITAL MARKET MOVING NEWS

ECONOMY

-Romania’s National Commission for Strategy and Prognosis (CNSP) has published the official winter forecast, the main indicators based on which the 2025 budget will be created. The forecast for 2025 indicates a 0.5% increase in industry (after a 0.2% decrease recorded in 2024), 3.9% advance in agriculture (after an 11% slump in 2024), a 4.8% growth in construction (after a 0.4% fall in 2024) and a 2.5% advance in services (after a 1.3% growth rate in 2024).

-Romanians are more pessimistic this year compared with 2023 with 67% of respondents expecting the economic situation to worsen, 7% more than in the previous year, a survey conducted by EY reveals.

-In January-October 2024 turnover in wholesale trade (except for trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles) decreased both as gross series by 2.1% and as series adjusted depending on the number of business days and seasonality, by 1.9% on an annual basis, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) data showed.

-In Q3 2024 the average monthly pension stood at RON 2,582 (up 6.4% q-o-q) , compared to the previous quarter, INS said. The average number of pensioners stood at 4.965 million, down by 6,000 from Q2 2024.

-Two in five Romanians (44%) say they will allocate smaller budgets for seasonal shopping this year because inflation is affecting their personal and family finances, a survey conducted for Revolut by research company Dynata showed.

FINANCE

-CEC Bank, the third largest bank in Romania by assets, listed today on the Regulated Market of the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) an issue of bonds amounting to EUR 300 million, senior non-preferred unsecured bonds, eligible in the light of the MREL requirements, with an annual interest of 5.625% , with maturity in 2029. The bonds were rated BB by Fitch.

-The Ministry of Finance borrowed RON 500 million from banks on Thursday (Dec. 19) by issuing a benchmark government bond with 67-month residual maturity, at an average yield of 7.22% per year, the National Bank of Romania (NBR) data showed.

-Romania’s second biggest insurer Allianz-Tiriac ended the first nine months of 2024 with RON 2.7 billion total underwritten policies, up 6% on an annual basis.

-The Fitch agency reconfirmed Bucharest’s individual credit profile at level “a”, three notches above Romania’s rating.

REAL ESTATE

About 60,000 houses were sold in November across the country, most of them in Bucharest and Ilfov and Brasov counties, according to the National Cadastre And Real Estate Advertising Agency.

CAPITAL MARKET COMMENTARY

Bucharest stocks head into the weekend higher bucking the trend across Europe where markets closed in the red after the Eurozone reported another drop in consumer confidence, and the United Kingdom a lower-than-expected rise in retail sales. Romania’s benchmark BET index advanced 1.85%.
