MARKET MOVING NEWS

ECONOMY

-The Romanian economy entered 2025 with positive long-term prospects, but with significant challenges in the year ahead, Colliers consultants predict in the report ”Top 10 Forecasts for the Romanian Real Estate Market in 2025”.

-All of Romania’s economic sectors will grow this year, according to the latest forecast from the National Commission for Strategy and Prognosis (CNSP). As a result, the economy will accelerate to a 2.5% advance, after having grown by 1% in 2024.

FINANCE

-EU finance ministers approved Romania’s deficit-cutting plan on Tuesday to bring its fiscal deficit below 3% of national output by 2030, a move Bucharest hopes will help reassure investors about its economic outlook and tame surging bond yields, according to Reuters. Romania should ensure that the nominal growth rate of net expenditure does not exceed 5.1% in 2025, 4.9% in 2026, 4.7% in 2027, 4.3% in 2028, 4.2% in 2029 and 3.9% in 2030.

-Catalyst Romania, a pioneer in private equity and venture capital investments in the country, will operate 4-5 new investments this year, reaching a portfolio of 14-15 companies linked to its second fund. The Catalyst Romania funds focus on providing early growth capital to young technology and tech-enabled companies from Romania and Eastern Europe, having potential to become leaders in the CEE region, or to reach a global presence and success.

COMPANIES

The Romanian mergers and acquisitions (M&A) market saw robust activity in 2024, recording 265 transactions in 2024, with an estimated value of US$6.6 billion. This translates into an annual increase of 10% in the number of deals (vs. 241 deals in 2023), and a 5.9% decrease in estimated value (US$7.1 billion in 2023), according to an analysis by EY Romania.
