ECONOMY
-On Jan. 24, 2025, S&P Global Ratings revised its outlook on Romania to negative from stable. At the same time, the international rating agency affirmed the country’s ‘BBB-/A-3’ long- and short-term foreign and local currency sovereign credit ratings.
-Romanian executives are cautiously upbeat about the evolution of the national economy in 2025, with half of them believing the local economy will register growth this year and the other half considering it will remain flat or even contract, according to the 28th annual edition of PwC Global CEO Survey 2025.
FINANCE
-Romania’s Finance Ministry raised RON400 million from banks on Monday (Jan.27), issuing government paper due in 2035 at annual average yields of 7.83%.
-Private lending in Romania increased by 8.9% to RON421.4 billion last month compared with December 2023 after the local currency lending grew by 11.5% and foreign currency lending rose 3.3%, the National Bank of Romania data showed.
-iBanFirst Romania, a leading global provider of foreign exchange and international payments for businesses, present in 10 European countries, post a 75% increase in international transaction volume to EUR1.38B in 2024.
-About 133,000 Romanians started saving for retirement via voluntary private pensions (Pillar III) in 2024, up 40% compared to 2023, the Romanian association for private pensions APAPR data reveal.
COMPANIES
-A total 1,281 transactions were sealed in Emerging Europe, in 2024, a year marked by many economic, social and geopolitical challenges, up 8% compared to 2023, according to the CMS Emerging Europe M&A 2024/25 report conducted in cooperation with EMIS.
