MARKET MOVING NEWS

ECONOMY

Retail sales volume in Romania (excluding motor vehicle and motorcycle trade) grew 7.8% year-on-year in December 2024, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics INS. This increase was observed both in unadjusted data and seasonally adjusted figures, signaling strong consumer demand despite macroeconomic challenges.

FINANCE

-Catalin Parvu, one of Romania’s most renowned bankers, has received National Bank approval to assume the position of Executive Vice President at Exim Banca Românească.

-BRD Groupe Société Générale, Romania’s fourth-largest lender, posted a RON 1.47 billion net profit for 2024, marking a 9.7% decline from the previous year, while net banking income rose almost 5% to RON 3.89 billion.

-Transilvania Investments Alliance has convened shareholders for a March 10, 2025, general meeting to approve: A share buyback program worth up to RON 92.5 million, aimed at capital reduction and employee incentives. A maximum RON 200 million loan designated for future investment projects.

COMPANIES

-Telekom Romania Mobile Deal: The potential sale of Telekom Romania Mobile to Vodafone and local telecom giant Digi stands a strong chance of approval in H1 2025, provided the buyers meet Romania’s Competition Council’s regulatory requirements.

-Nuclearelectrica Contracts: Nuclear power producer Nuclearelectrica signed four new wholesale energy contracts worth a total of RON 155 million with supplier Energy Distribution Services (EDS) for 2026 deliveries.

-One United Properties, Romania’s leading green developer reported total sales and pre-sales of €227.8 million in 2024, covering 83,958 sqm of residential and commercial spaces.
