MARKET MOVING NEWS

ECONOMY

-A recent Foreign Investors Council survey reveals that only 36% of companies plan to increase their investments in Romania this year. This is the lowest figure recorded since 2020, signaling a significant decline in investor confidence. This trend could have serious implications for Romania’s economic growth and job creation.

-Romania’s labor market is facing one of its toughest starts to a year in the last ten years. Thousands of layoffs have already occurred, and even more are expected in the coming months, Ziare.com reported.

-According to the National Bank of Romania, remittances in 2024 totaled EUR 6.7 billion, representing 2% of the country’s GDP. This highlights the substantial role these funds play in the Romanian economy.

-Libra Internet Bank forecasts that inflation will remain above 3.5% in 2025, adding to the economic challenges.

FINANCE

-ING Bank Romania reported 2024 revenues of RON 3.8 billion, a 13% year-over-year increase, and a profit exceeding RON 1.8 billion.

-Subscriptions to Fidelis government bonds in the debut edition of 2025 (7-14 February 2025) the first such monthly offering, stood at about RON 4.3 billion.

-Transilvania Investments Alliance (TRANSI.RO) saw its 2024 net profit fall by 55% year-over-year to RON 105.8 million.

COMPANIES

-iPath, the first Romanian unicorn listed on the NYSE, is closing its Quality Assurance department in Romania as part of a shift to automated testing.
