ECONOMY
-The government debt increased to RON936.995 billion in November 2024, from RON931.186 billion in the previous month, according to data released by the Finance Ministry. As GDP percentage, the government debt grew to 54.3% frm 54% in October.
-Romanian authorities issued 2,511 residential building permits in December 2024, down 8% compared to November 2024 and 1.5% fewer than in December 2023, data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS) showed.
FINANCE
-Romania’s Finance Ministry raised RON1.97 billion from banks on Thursday (Jan. 30), through two government bond issues at annual average yields of 6.98% and 7.45%, respectively, the National Bank of Romania announced.
-A gram of gold increased up by 3.2617 lei (0.76%) on Thursday, reaching 427.4 lei from 424.1384 lei on Wednesday, according to the National Bank of Romania, recording a new record value.
COMPANIES
-The weight of companies expecting headcount cuts in 2025 rose to 11% in January 2025 from 2% in January 2024, according to a survey PwC Romania survey.
-British multinational fast-moving consumer goods company Unilever is set to shut down its Denny ice cream factory in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria and move part of production to Romania, in Suceava, local media reported. The administrative part will remain in Bulgaria.
-Three supermalls with about 130,000 square meters of gross lettable area each are under construction in Cluj and Iasi, as the developers in Romania are betting on the improving purchasing power of consumers, Ziarul Financiar reported.
