ECONOMY
-The National Bank of Romania (NBR) signaled that the country’s annual inflation rate will continue to fluctuate in the first half of 2025. After another decline in March—albeit on a slightly higher path than projected in the February 2025 medium-term forecast—inflation is expected to rise modestly in the second quarter, broadly in line with previous estimates.
FINANCE
-The state-owned CEC Bank reported a RON 687.9 million net profit for 2024, a 30% increase year-on-year. Total assets surged by 19%, reaching RON 99.33 billion.
-OMV Petrom (SNP), Romania’s largest company by turnover, registered hydrocarbon production of 107.5 thousand boe/day in Q1 2025—down 3.8% compared to Q1 2024, but up 0.28% over Q4 2024.
-Banca Transilvania was fined RON 24,883 (~EUR 5,000) by the National Supervisory Authority for Personal Data Processing for breaching EU Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR).
COMPANIES
-Transelectrica, Romania’s national grid operator, has budgeted RON 8.54 billion in revenues for 2025 (+8.1% YoY) and expects a RON 153.3 million net profit, down 74.3% from 2024.
-BSOG Energy, a subsidiary of Black Sea Oil & Gas, will invest over EUR 65 million in a new production facility in Romania, in partnership with Unigrains Trading. The factory will produce 57 MW of biomethane and over 250,000 tons/year of organic fertilizer.
-The popular Romanian coffee shop chain 5 to go, with nearly 600 locations, has unveiled a new Espresso franchise model featuring a low-cost, mobile “turnkey” trailer concept designed for areas with limited commercial space.
-France’s hospitality group Accor is launching its Handwritten Collection brand in Romania. The first property, Bucharest Unirii Square – Handwritten Collection, marks the brand’s debut in Southeast Europe.
