ECONOMY
-The tariffs imposed by the Trump administration on EU imports are expected to indirectly impact Romania’s economy, given its strong economic ties with Germany, Erste Group analysts warned. In their baseline scenario, Romania’s GDP growth is projected to slow by 0.8% in 2026, while in a pessimistic scenario, the decline could exceed 1.5%.
-Romania’s National Institute of Statistics (INS) revised downward the country’s economic growth for 2024 to just 0.8% in real terms compared to 2023. The updated figure is 0.1 percentage points lower than the previous estimate published on March 7, 2025.
FINANCE
-ALRO Slatina (ALR.RO), one of Europe’s largest vertically integrated aluminium producers, announced the commissioning of a state-of-the-art aluminium plate cutting saw, enhancing its production capabilities in high and very high value-added segments. The investment amounted to RON 8 million, according to the company’s stock exchange report released on April 10.
-National electricity transmission operator Transelectrica (TEL.RO) notified the Bucharest Stock Exchange that its majority shareholder — the Government’s General Secretariat — has requested the distribution of at least 90% of the company’s 2024 net profit, far exceeding the 26% payout proposed by the Board.
COMPANIES
-Bucharest Airports National Company (CNAB) has launched a tender for the design of a new terminal at Henri Coandă International Airport, valued at EUR 40 million. The project envisions a 176,000 square meter terminal designed to accommodate 30 million passengers annually, equipped with modern, sustainable facilities on par with major European hubs.
-International hotel giants Accor and Marriott are expanding their presence in Romania, with new projects announced in two of the country’s leading spa resorts — Băile Felix and Călimănești — according to Ziarul Financiar.
-TenarisSilcotub, Romania’s leading producer of seamless pipes, has completed the construction of a 20 MW photovoltaic park, following a USD 21.5 million investment, marking another step in its commitment to green energy.
