MARKET MOVING NEWS

ECONOMY

-Romania’s trade deficit widened to €2.7 billion in January 2025, marking a 38.5% increase (€761 million) compared to January 2024, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS)

-Net investment in Romania’s economy declined by 4.9% in 2024, reaching RON 193.79 billion (€38.94 billion), according to provisional INS data.

-The Romanian automotive sector continued to struggle, with car production falling by 14% in the first two months of 2025 compared to the same period last year, totaling 85,260 units, according to the Automotive Manufacturers and Importers Association (ACAROM).

-For the first time in its history, the Randstad Romania Workmonitor research found that job security (88%) and work-life balance (86%) are considered more important than salary (84%) for Romanian employees, ranking slightly above global averages.

-The cost of outfitting Bucharest office spaces rose by 12% in 2024, surpassing €1,000 per square meter, reflecting broader regional trends where capital cities experienced an 8-15% increase in costs, according to Cushman & Wakefield Echinox and the Fit-Out Cost Guide 2025 report.

COMPANIES

-OMV Petrom, the largest integrated energy producer in Southeastern Europe, announced the closing of the farm-down transaction between its subsidiary OMV Offshore Bulgaria and NewMed Energy Balkan, a subsidiary of NewMed Energy.

-Greece’s PPC Group confirmed a €10 billion investment plan in Southeastern Europe, aimed at green energy expansion, network modernization, and technological innovation.
