ECONOMY
-Annual inflation in Romania stood at 5.02% in February 2025, slightly above the 5.0% recorded in January, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS) released on March 13.
-Industrial production fell 2.5% year-on-year in January 2025 (unadjusted data). However, when adjusted for the number of working days and seasonality, production showed a 2.1% increase.
FINANCE
-The Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) launched a new financial education section on the BVB Research Hub platform, aimed at retail investors. This initiative seeks to enhance financial literacy and foster a stronger investment culture in Romania.
-The Romanian Finance Ministry raised RON 505 million from banks on March 13, selling government securities at an annual average yield of 7.39%.
-BRD SocGen, Romania’s fourth-largest bank by assets, has scheduled its general meeting of shareholders for April 24, 2025. The agenda includes a vote on a RON 737.4 million dividend distribution, representing 50% of its 2024 net profit of RON 1.47 billion.
COMPANIES
-Romanian pharmaceutical producer Antibiotice Iași has proposed a RON 13.8 million dividend distribution from its 2024 net profit of RON 102.2 million, based on annual audited financial statements.
-Vienna Insurance Group (VIG) subsidiaries in Romania—Omniasig, Asirom, and BCR Asigurări de Viață—reported gross written premiums exceeding EUR 900 million in 2024, marking a 25% increase compared to 2023.
