ECONOMY
-Romania’s current account deficit widened to EUR 7.6 billion in the first quarter of 2025, up from EUR 4.2 billion in the same period of 2024, according to data released by the National Bank of Romania (BNR) on Wednesday (May 14).
-Industrial production in Romania also showed signs of weakness, declining by 4.2% in the first quarter of 2025 on an unadjusted basis compared to the same period last year, according to the latest data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
FINANCE
-The Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB), the operator of the local capital market, reported a net loss of RON 1.19 million at the group level for the first quarter of 2025, compared to a net profit of RON 2.96 million in the same period of 2024.
-Bucharest City Hall has listed a new bond issue (stock symbol: PMB31) worth RON 555.1 million on the Regulated Market of the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
-Transilvania Broker de Asigurare (stock symbol: TBK), one of the largest insurance brokers on the local market, posted a net loss of RON 1.2 million for the first quarter of 2025, reversing from a net profit of nearly RON 850,000 in the same period last year.
-Pharmaceutical producer Antibiotice Iasi reported total revenues of RON 180 million in the first quarter of 2025, down 6% year-on-year, while net profit fell 13% to RON 32.6 million.
-Romania’s national grid company Transelectrica registered a net profit of RON 158 million in the first quarter of 2025, a 52% increase from the previous year, despite a 29% drop in revenues to RON 1.4 billion.
