MARKET MOVING NEWS

ECONOMY

-Romania’s energy output declined by an annual 7.7% in the first two months of 2025, reaching 2.743 million tons of oil equivalent (TOE), according to provisional data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS). The decrease was mainly driven by lower hydro and wind power generation.

-Industrial production also posted a contraction, down 5.2% in February 2025 compared to the same month last year in unadjusted terms, and down 3.2% when adjusted for working days and seasonality, INS data shows.

-Meanwhile, Bucharest’s labor market remained dynamic, with the number of employees increasing to 1,105,952 at the end of January 2025, up from 1,087,624 in January 2024.

FINANCE

-Romania’s Ministry of Finance raised RON 440.2 million on April 14 from banks, through a government bond issue maturing in 99 months, with an average annual yield of 7.48%.

-The volume of gross written premiums for guarantee insurance reached RON 277 million at the end of 2024, marking a 3% year-on-year increase, according to the Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF).

-TBI Bank, a rising challenger bank in Southeast Europe, facilitated purchases for over 300,000 clients in 2024 — a 72% increase compared to the previous year.

COMPANIES

– GELD Capital Management and its subsidiary REPACO Capital will inaugurate Curtea de Argeș Retail Park on April 17. The project offers a leasable area of 6,100 sqm and is part of a broader expansion strategy targeting Romania’s growing strip mall segment.

-Țiriac Group has resumed the authorization process for a large-scale real estate development in Brașov, an investment exceeding €100 million. The project will focus on the urban reconversion of a 40,000 sqm site located in the city center, on the former IUS S.A. industrial platform.
