MARKET MOVING NEWS

ECONOMY

-Romania’s productivity, measured by gross added value per hour worked, has seen significant growth, rising from 26% of the EU average in 2008 to 44% in 2024. According to an analysis by Alpha Bank Romania, women have played a remarkable role in driving this progress.

FINANCE

-InterCapital Asset Management (ICAM), the largest independent investment manager in Croatia, with EUR 650 million in assets under management, is listing today, March 18, on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB), its second ETF (Exchange Traded Fund), tracking Slovenia’s main stock market index.

-Private equity fund Morphosis Capital is accelerating its investment pace in 2025 as Romania continues to present multiple opportunities. The fund is also expanding regionally, according to Ziarul Financiar.

-More than 86,000 individuals in Romania held bank deposits exceeding EUR 100,000 at the end of 2024, amounting to nearly RON 92 billion (approximately EUR 18 billion), as reported by the Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund (FGDB).

COMPANIES

-State-owned Nuclearelectrica (SNN.RO), operator of the Cernavodă nuclear power plant, has called for a shareholders’ meeting on April 24, 2025. Among the agenda items is the approval of RON 815 million in dividend distribution from its 2024 net profit.

-Romania’s Competition Council is currently analyzing the acquisition of ZG Timber Sebeș S.R.L. by Kronospan Holdings South Limited.

CAPITAL MARKET COMMENTARY

Romanian stocks closed mostly lower on Tuesday, diverging from the broader positive trend across European markets. The BET index of the Bucharest Stock Exchange fell 0.64%, with Electrica leading the blue-chip decliners, dropping 3.35%.
