MARKET MOVING NEWS

ECONOMY

-Part-time job postings have surged 20% year-over-year, with 7,500 new positions posted in early 2025, according to eJobs, Romania’s largest online recruitment platform.

-Romania imported a quantity of usable natural gas of 1.612 million tons of oil equivalent (toe) in the first 11 months of 2024, down by 15.7% (-313,500 toe) year-on-year, according to data by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

FINANCE

-Romania’s Finance Ministry successfully raised RON 1.89 billion from banks through two auctions of government bonds, with annual average yields of 6.64% and 7.43%, respectively.

-NN Asigurari de Viata, the leading life insurance provider in Romania, ended 2024 with RON 1.15 billion in gross underwritten premiums, marking a 12.7% increase from 2023.

-Investment in Romanian startups remained robust, surpassing EUR 100 million for the fourth consecutive year, reaching EUR 130.7 million in 2024, according to the “Venture in Eastern Europe 2024” report by How to Web and Croatian unicorn Infobip.

COMPANIES

The National Bank of Romania (NBR) has identified 167 locally-owned companies across three strategic sectors—food security, energy security, and high value-added economic transformation. These firms have demonstrated superior competitiveness, aligning with recommendations from the National Committee for Macro-Prudential Supervision.
