ECONOMY
-Amid ongoing inflationary pressures, nearly 46% of Romanians say they are limiting purchases to basic necessities for daily survival, according to a Reveal Marketing Research survey. In February 2025, the top spending categories were: Food (89%), Utilities (82%), Personal hygiene products (73%), Home care (67%)
Medicines and supplements (66%).
-Value vouchers have emerged as a powerful economic tool. According to a study by the University of Economic Studies in Bucharest (ASE), vouchers contributed over RON 32 billion to GDP in 2023, representing more than 2% of the national economy.
FINANCE
-The Romanian insurance market continues its upward trend. UNIQA Romania, part of the Austrian UNIQA Group, reported EUR 144 million in gross written premiums for 2024 — a robust 20% year-on-year increase. The group also recorded EUR 16 million in profits, up 70% from the previous year.
-Romania ranks among the countries with the lowest banking exposure to construction companies, according to Cushman & Wakefield Echinox, citing data from the National Bank of Romania.
