MARKET MOVING NEWS

ECONOMY

-A total of 7,274 new insolvency proceedings were opened in Romania in 2024, marking a 9.38% increase from the 6,650 cases recorded in 2023, according to a Coface Romania study.

FINANCE

– CFA Romania analysts project the Leu to reach 5.15 units per Euro over the next 12 months, alongside an estimated 4.97% inflation rate and 1.5% economic growth.
-CEC Bank has secured European Commission approval for a capital increase, while Exim Banca Românească is still awaiting a decision, according to financial market sources.
-Starting March 10, 2025, Romanian debit card holders with accounts on www.ghiseul.ro can purchase government bonds online via the TEZAUR program.
-Romania’s factoring market closed 2024 with a total operations volume of EUR 9.4 billion, up 8% year-over-year, per data from the Romanian Factoring Association (ARF).

COMPANIES

-TeraPlast Bistrița (TRP), a building materials producer, reported a RON 19.6 million loss in 2024, reversing a RON 1.1 million profit in 2023, largely due to higher interest and amortization costs related to new manufacturing investments.
-Antibiotice Iași, a leading pharmaceutical producer, saw revenues rise by 8% to RON 693 million, with net profit surging 23% to RON 99 million compared to 2023.
-Winemaker Purcari recorded RON 382.4 million in revenues for 2024, up 3%, driven by a 13% expansion in the main wine segment. However, net profit declined 10% to RON 57.3 million.
-Hidroelectrica, the largest Bucharest Stock Exchange-listed company, posted a 35% decline in net profit to RON 4.1 billion, while revenues dropped 25% to RON 9.1 billion, reflecting sector-wide challenges.

CAPITAL MARKET COMMENTARY

Romanian stocks ended higher on Tuesday, mirroring European gains as investors digested a flurry of corporate earnings reports. The BET index, the Bucharest Stock Exchange’s benchmark, climbed 0.47%, with Banca Transilvania leading the blue-chip rally, gaining 2.66%.
