Government Debt and Bond Market
-Romania taps international debt markets for the second time this year, issuing 7-year and 14-year Eurobonds. The country secured EUR 2.8 billion and USD 1.25 billion in February. Following a record EUR 18 billion in 2024, Romania plans to borrow EUR 13 billion in 2025, indicating continued reliance on debt markets.
-On March 27th, the Romanian Finance Ministry raised RON 500 million from domestic banks through benchmark bond sales, with an average annual yield of 7.48%, as reported by the National Bank of Romania.
Financial Sector Highlights
Private Pension Fund Growth: Romania’s private pension fund assets reached RON 156 billion by the end of 2024, representing 9.06% of the country’s GDP, according to the Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF).
Stock Brokerage Activity: Swiss Capital, TradeVille, and BT Capital Partners dominated trading on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) in February 2025, collectively handling RON 926 million in deals, or 50.7% of the total market volume, based on calculations by Ziarul Financiar (ZF).
Transilvania Broker reported a net profit of approximately RON 8.7 million for 2024 and proposes distributing RON 3 million in dividends at a share price of RON 0.6.
Insurance: Allianz-Țiriac Asigurări saw significant growth in its 30th year, with a nearly 20% increase in life and health insurance policies, surpassing the market average and reaching over RON 630 million in total underwritten policies.
Millenium Insurance Broker, recently listed on the AeRO market, achieved a net profit of just over RON 2.48 million in 2024.
