13:04 The Chamber of Deputies rejected, on Wednesday (Feb. 8), the simple motion against the minister of Internal Affairs, Lucian Bode, submitted by Save Romania Union (USR) and debated in plenary session on Monday.

11:01 Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis participated in a video-conference with President of the European Council Charles Michel and a group of European leaders, in the preparatory meeting for the special European Council, which takes place on Thursday and Friday in Brussels, the Romanian head of state wrote on his Twitter page on Tuesday.

10:11 Romania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs (MAE), Bogdan Aurescu, held a telephonic conversation, on Tuesday, with his Israeli counterpart, Eli Cohen, whom he assured of “Romania’s commitment to the deepening and development of the strategic partnership between the two states”, according to the Foreign Ministry (MAE).

12:26 Producers and economic operators are compelled to report stocks of agricultural and food products, according to a draft law adopted on Wednesday by the Chamber of Deputies’ plenum.

11:49 The National Credit Guarantee Fund for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (FNGCIMM) provided guarantees worth 163 million RON in 20 years of activity, of which 45% between 2020-2022, Director General of the Fund Dumitru Nancu told a conference on Tuesday.

10:15 Romania’s real estate market registered record investments last year, passing a historic milestone of EUR1.25 billion, which translates into an increase of 36% compared to 2021, according to the latest CBRE report titled Market Outlook 2023.

10:10 Romania’s state-controlled hydropower company Hidroelectrica could build a solar park of up to 1,500 MW on a plot of land leased directly from the State Domains Agency (ADS) in the Piscul Sadovei-Dabuleni area (Dolj), Ziarul Financiar reported.

09:45 The number of newly established companies increased at a moderate pace in Romania in 2022, with 3% more firms being registered as compared to 2021 (152,809 from 148,294), data from the National Trade Register Office showed.

09:15 The banking group BRD obtained a net profit of approximately 1.34 billion RON last year, a slight increase compared to the result in 2021, when it reported almost 1.32 billion RON, while the lender’s profit rose to 1.29 billion RON, according to the consolidated and individual financial statements as of December 31, 2022, submitted to the Bucharest Stock Exchange on Wednesday.

14:15 Romanian authorities decided to send a second RO-USAR team to earthquake-hit Turkey to assist with the search and rescue of survivors.

CAPITAL MARKET COMMENTARY

Bucharest stocks traded mostly in the red on Wednesday as investors look ahead to Romania’s central bank monetary policy decision due to Thursday. Meanwhile, senior European Central Bank officials continued to voice concern about inflation and insisted that there could be at least two more 50 basis point rate hikes at the ECB’s next two monetary policy meetings.
