10:45 Minister of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu held a telephonic conversation, on Wednesday, with his Polish counterpart, Zbigniew Rau, on bilateral relations, with the top Romanian diplomat conveying thanks, at the same time, for Poland’s “firm” and “active” support for Romania’s accession to the Schengen area, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE).

10:32 Minister of Development, Public Works and Administration Cseke Attila signed on Thursday (Jan. 19) 38 new financing contracts worth a total of RON 369,889,052.79 under the “Renovation Wave” programme to increase energy performance of buildings, Agerpres reported.

CAPITAL MARKET COMMENTARY

Bucharest stocks closed mostly higher on Thursday as stock exchanges in Europe were below the flatline at the end of the trading session with investors looking into statements made by leaders of major central banks earlier in the day. The European Central Bank is reportedly planning to introduce additional 50 basis point interest rate hikes, while the Bank of England governor expects a “long but shallow” recession in Britain.
