ECONOMY
-The National Bank of Romania (BNR) maintained its key monetary policy rate at 7% for the sixth consecutive meeting in October 2023, in line with market expectations.
-Romania’s insurance market reached a volume of gross written premiums of RON9.1 billion in the first half of 2023, up 4% y-o-y, according to the country’s Financial Supervisory Authority.
-The Ministry of Finance raised RON766.3 million from banks on Thursday (October 5), above the planned level of RON600 million, selling treasury bills maturing in October 2028, at an annual average yield of 6.94%, BNR data showed.
-In the second quarter of 2023, the average income per household was RON 6910 and the average expenditure per household was RON 5969 the National Institute of Statistics (INS) said.
COMPANIES
-The combined turnover of the companies holding the top ten spots in the National Ranking of Companies compiled by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR) reached EUR279 billion in 2022, up 32% y-o-y, while the operating profit stood at EUR27 billion, up 38% y-o-y, Ziarul Financiar reported.
-Bucharest-listed state-owned natural gas producer Romgaz announced in a stock market report on Thursday (October 5) the conclusion of a new natural gas sales-purchase contract with E.ON Energie Romania, the largest natural gas distributor and supplier in the country.
