Romanian President Klaus Iohannis and Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu on Wednesday congratulated Donald Trump for winning the U.S. presidential elections.

ECONOMY

The National Bank of Romania (BNR) has released a gold coin marking the 80th anniversary of treasure evacuation Operation Neptune and a special sheet consisting of four banknotes of a face value of RON 10.

FINANCE

In Q3 2024, over 755,000 people are investors in opened investment funds in Romania, 200,000 more than in the same period a year ago, while active stock reached 26 billion lei, Horia Gusta, the president of the Association of Fund Administrators (AAF) told an event organized on Tuesday by the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) and the AAF.

COMPANIES

-Romanian shipyard Orsova Shipyard (SNO) concluded two contracts for the construction and delivery of two river vessels to the Dutch company Rensen-Driessen Shipbuilding, worth 8.58 million euros.

-The success of companies in Romania largely depends on the adaptation of leaders to the ever-changing labour market (81%), with more than half of the organizations (57%) saying that they are not prepared to address this topic, according to the results of Deloitte 2024 Global Human Capital Trends for Romania, published on Tuesday.

-A total of 5,119 companies and self-employed persons (PFAs) went insolvent in the first nine months of 2024, up 11.82% on an annual basis, according to data by the National Trade Register Office (ONRC).

-The retail and the finance banking sectors top the ranking of the best employers of 2024, as the IT&C sectors plunges, according to a ranking made by Undelucram.ro, the largest online community of employees in Romania.

TIMISOARA

Bucharest-listed Hidroelectrica, the largest electricity producer in Romania, signed a Memorandum of Collaboration with Politehnica University of Timisoara to support research, innovation and training of future generations of specialists in the field of hydropower and energy engineering.

ORADEA

Oradea, a city in northwest Romania known for baroque and art nouveau architecture, is represented, between November 5 and 7, at the most prestigious event in the tourism industry, the World Travel Market London (WTM London). Meanwhile, Romania will be promoted as tourist destination on buses in UK for a month, the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MEAT) said.

CAPITAL MARKET COMMENTARY

Bucharest stocks closed mostly higher on Wednesday bucking the trend across Europe where stocks closed weak. European stocks moved higher earlier in the session with investors reacting to Trump’s win, and a batch of encouraging regional economic data. Investors also looked ahead to the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy announcement on Tuesday. The Bank of England is also scheduled to announce its policy on Thursday.
