ECONOMY
-Romania’s annual inflation rate edged up to 4.7% in October 2024, from 4.6% in the previous month and above market expectations of 4.4%. Prices rose for food (4.75% vs 4.72% in September) and non-food products (3.45% vs 3.30%), the National Institute of Statistics (INS) data showed.
-In September 2024, the average gross earnings were 8553 lei, with 110 lei (+1.3%) higher than the one registered in August 2024, INS said. The average net earnings were 5228 lei, increasing with 70 lei (+1.4%) as against August 2024. The highest values of the average net earnings were recorded in computer programming, consultancy and related activities (including information service activities) (11626 lei), while the lowest in manufacture of wearing apparel (3016 lei).
FINANCE
-Romania’s Finance Ministry raised RON600 million from banks on Monday (Nov 11), via government bonds at an annual average yield of 6.95%, the National Bank of Romania (BNR) data showed.
COMPANIES
– Hamburg-based GARBE Industrial Real Estate GmbH, one of the leading providers and managers of logistics, light industrial and technology real estate in Germany and Europe, just set up a new company in Romania.
-Greek construction company Aktor sees Romania as a key market in the coming years and plans to expand its footprint in the local market by participating in new infrastructure projects within its EUR2 billion investment plan which was recently unveiled in Athens.
-Foodservice distributor OmniaGusti, one of Romania’s largest suppliers on the confectionery raw materials market, is entering the HoReCa (Hotel, Restaurant, and Catering) segment and expects an increase of over 40% in its 2024 turnover.
CLUJ-NAPOCA
The “Avram Iancu” airport in Cluj-Napoca, northwestern Romania, has implemented a EUR 5 tax for each passenger to fund development. The fee has already been included in the price of all plane tickets purchased by passengers for departures from the Transylvanian city and will apply until December 31, 2028.

Bucharest stocks closed higher on Tuesday extending gains from the previous session and RON 82.19 million (EUR 16.51 million) worth of transactions. The most traded stocks on the Main Market were Banca Transilvania which generated trades worth RON 28.25 million, followed by Digi Communications (RON 14.98 million), and OMV Petrom (RON 5.93 million), BVB data showed. |
