POLITICS

Romania’s Permanent Election Authority, announced that voting for presidential elections began abroad, with the first polling station being opened on Friday (Nov. 22), in New Zealand at Auckland, 1.00 a.m. Romanian time.

ECONOMY

-The government approved on Thursday (Nov. 21) the budget of the State Treasury for the year 2025, establishing revenues of 1.38 billion RON and expenses of 1.29 billion RON, with a surplus of 86.045 million RON.

-Romania’s trade deficit with Poland stood at 4 billion euros in 2023, as we imported 7.3 billion euros and exported 3.6 billion euros, according to Ovidiu Ioan Silaghi, secretary general of the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

FINANCE

-Romania’s major banks should sustain healthy asset quality and solid profitability as the improved operating environment remains favourable for business generation, Fitch Ratings said on Thursday (Nov. 21).

-State-owned Romanian banking institution CEC Bank has successfully closed a new bond issue worth EUR300 million on international markets, through a issue of Senior Non- preferred MREL Eligible Notes, Ziarul Financiar reported.

-The three-month ROBOR index, which is used to calculate the cost of consumer loans in RON with variable interest rates, rose on Friday (Nov. 22) to 5.75% per year, from 5.59% in the previous session, the Bank National Bank of Romania (BNR) data showed.

-Romania’s Finance Ministry raised RON752 million from banks on Thursday (Nov 21), issuing government bonds at annual average yields of 6.34% and 7.16%, respectively.

– Exim Banca Romaneasca, a 100% Romanian universal bank, and Damen Shipyards Galati, one of the largest production units of the Dutch Damen Group, have concluded a financing agreement worth 25 million euros for the implementation of the shipyard’s investment program focused on expanding and equipping ship assembly facilities. Damen Shipyards Galati is one of the major naval builders in Romania and is located on the Danube in Galati city.

-Banca Comerciala Romana (BCR), a member of Austria’s Erste Group, and Softlead, an integrated B2B marketplace in Romania, which helps companies to choose the right software solution, based on their Digital DNA, have concluded a partnership which allows BCR clients to access a complete ecosystem of digital and financial solutions essential for business performance.

-The European Commission approved a EUR578 million (RON2.9 billion) Romanian state aid scheme to support energy-intensive companies.

COMPANIES

-Greek utility PPC (Public Power Corporation) Group has completed the acquisition of Evryo Group’s (formerly known as CEZ Romania) renewable energy portfolio in Romania, previously held by funds managed by Macquarie Asset Management. The acquired portfolio comprises 600 MW of onshore wind in operation, 22 MW of hydro, 1 MW of solar PV and 6 MW of battery storage, with a further 145 MW in assets under development.

– MedLife Group, the leading private healthcare provider in Romania inaugurated its new MedLife Craiova Hospital, following a nearly EUR6 million investment. The new hospital, located in the city of Craiova, joins Medlife’s network of 15 hospitals, 200 clinics and hyperclinics, and 34 laboratories. Currently, MedLife owns the largest diagnostic and treatment platform in the country.
