The Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) ordered on Thursday (Nov. 28) the Central Electoral Bureau to recount the valid and invalid votes cast in the first round of Romania’s presidential election, which took place Sunday (Nov. 24). The court’s decision comes after conservative presidential candidate Cristian Terhes, who got 1% of the votes, challenged the ballot’s result. At the same time, the CCR rejected a petition by candidate Sebastian Constantin Popescu to annul the results, citing late submission of the request. The constitutional court is due to reconvene on Friday (Nov. 29) at 2:00 pm. There were 9.46 million votes cast in the election.
