Romania and Bulgaria will enter the Schengen area of free movement by air and sea borders in March 2024, the Romanian government announced on Wednesday.

ECONOMY

-The National Statistics Institute revised Romania’s economic growth from 4.7% to 4.1% in 2022.

-Private lending in Romania increased by 5.4% in nominal terms (down 1.2% in real terms) to RON384 billion in November 2023 on an annual basis, the National Bank of Romania (BNR) data showed.

-CFA Romania financial analysts say the public budget deficit expected for 2023 will be 5.7% of GDP and will reach 5.2% next year.

-The net assets of the 248 domestic and foreign open-end and closed-end investment funds operating in Romania grew by 2.1% last month to RON39.5 billion (EUR7.9 billion), but decreased by 14% since the beginning of the year, data from the Association of Fund Managers (AAF) showed.

-The volume of construction works in Romania increased, in unadjusted data, by 10.7% in October 2023 on an annual basis, INS data revealed.
