POLITICS
Romanian Prime Minister and PSD candidate in the presidential elections Marcel Ciolacu announced his withdrawal from the presidential race regardless of vote recount result. The Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) requested on Thursday that the Central Electoral Bureau recount the valid and invalid votes from the first round of the presidential elections. Ciolacu ranked third in the first round. The CCR postponed for Monday (Dec. 2) debates on request to cancel first round of voting.
ECONOMY
-The government debt went up to 916.758 billion lei or 54.4% of GDP in September 2024, from 52.7% in August, the Ministry of Finance data showed.
-The gross income received by employees who worked with full-time employment contract and
were paid for the entire month of October 2023 was 7341 lei, with more than one fourth above
the gross basic salary (5742 lei), the National Institute of Statistics (INS) data showed.
-The number of building permits for residential buildings was up 3.5% in the January-October 2024 period, INS data showed.
FINANCE
-Forty Management, leader in the development of sustainable real estate projects in Romania and across Europe, announced on Wednesday the launch of the first issue of guaranteed bonds for a maximum amount of EUR 5 million, with a maturity of 4 years and a coupon payable semi-annually.
COMPANIES
-Koç Holding, the largest industrial conglomerate in Turkey and present in Romania via Arctic, Beko, Grundig, Ford and Otokar brands, is opening KoçZer procurement platform in Romania, via which it wants to ease trade between the two countries, Ziarul Financiar reported.
-Russian multinational cybersecurity and anti-virus provider Kaspersky closes its local office in Romania as “part of a larger process, carried out in Eastern Europe, a process that reflects Kaspersky’s focus on operational efficiency, a key component in the company’s overall strategy” Kaspersky said.
