POLITICS

-Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis will lead the Romanian delegation that will participate in the high-level segment of the 77th session of the General Assembly of the Organization of Nations Unite (UN), next week, on Tuesday and Wednesday, in New York, the Presidential Administration informed.

-Romania’s public debt decreased at the moment as against 2021, and the budget deficit is under 2.5 percent, Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca told the press at the Bucharest Security Conference on Friday.

-Romania’s Social Democratic Party (PSD) leads in the latest poll conducted in September by Avangarde, with 35% support among voters (versus 25% for the Liberal Party PNL), Digi24 reported.

ECONOMY

-Romania’s unemployment rate stood at 5.3% in the second quarter of 2022, down 0.7% from in 1Q 2022, INS data showed.

-The ruling coalition decided on Thursday that the price of wood and wood products used for heating should be capped at 500 RON per stere metre for a period of 6 months, government sources said.

-Romania has 150 green startups and 115 key actors, who support them and are basic pillars in the ecosystem, according to the second edition of the Green Startup Ecosystem Overview Report 2022.

-Most Romanian employees (80%) began taking measures to protect their budget, anticipating costs of the coming winter, according to a survey released by recruiting platform BestJobs.

-More than 630,000 foreign tourists visited Romania in the first half of 2022. They spent over RON1.6 billion, meaning more than RON2,600 per person.
