POLITICS
-The government stresses that freedom of the press must be protected and no journalist can be threatened, intimidated or assaulted, government spokesman Dan Carbunaru said on Thursday.
-Premier Ciuca announced on Thursday that there is no fear that Romania may not have the gas needed for the 2022-2023 winter. The prime minister also announced that 1.6 billion cubic meters had been stored until Wednesday.
ECONOMY
-Three-month ROBOR, the interbank interest rate used as a reference to calculate variable interests for loans in lei taken out before May 2019, rose to 7.36% a year on Friday, July 22, up 15 basis points from Thursday, when it stood at 7.21% a year, National Bank of Romania data showed.
– Romania’s net coal production in January-May 2022 reached almost 1.2 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe), down 1.5% (17,800 toe) y-o-y, National Institute of Statistics (INS) data showed.
COMPANIES & MARKET
-Romania will account for almost 9% of polyol production in Europe, after Chimcomplex -Romania’s largest chemical plant with industrial sites in Onesti and Ramnicu Valcea- inaugurated a production installation for special polyols on the Oltchim site, following an investment of EUR40 million.
