POLITICS
-The natural gas connection project between the north-eastern and north-western regions of Romania, will be completed in the next three years, Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca said on Thursday, upon attending Transgaz’ opening of the Pojorata – Vatra Dornei (northeastern Suceava County) natural gas pipeline.
-A delegation led by state adviser Laszlo Borbely represented Romania at the 61st congress of the Council of the European Regional Science Association (ERSA) in Pecs, Hungary, August 22-26.
ECONOMY
-The budget deficit rose to RON27 billion or 1.94% of the GDP, Romania’s Finance Ministry said after the first seven months of this year, from 1.71% of the GDP in the first semester of 2022.
-The volume of trade between Germany and Romania stood at EUR18.4 billion in the first half of 2022, up 12.3% y-o-y, the Federal Statistical Office data showed.
COMPANIES & MARKET
-Over 100,000 jobs were posted by startups between January-August 2022, up 20% y-o-y, according to online recruiting platform eJobs.
-Banca Transilvania financial group, the largest lender in Romania by assets, ended the first half of this year with net consolidated profit of RON1.046 billion, up 3% y-o-y, with the bank’s profit standing at RON907 million, up almost 1%.
