POLITICS
-President Klaus Iohannis at the Haferland Week Festival in Crit, Brasov County on Sunday said that Romania will continue to defend the rights and interests of its minorities and make efforts to build a society as inclusive and tolerant as possible.
-Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca had a phone call on Monday with President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, with whom he approached the stage of the agreed bilateral projects in fields related to energy, agriculture, investments, education and cyber security, the government said in a release.
ECONOMY
-Romania’s jobless rate decreased by 0.1 percentage points, to 5.3% in June, compared to the one recorded in the previous month, National Institute of Statistics (INS) data showed on Monday.
-Romania’s foreign exchange reserves stood at EUR48.51 billion in July 2022 from EUR47.82 billion in June 2022, according to National Bank of Romania (BNR) data.
-Romania’s three-month ROBOR index, the interbank interest rate used as a reference to calculate variable interests for loans in lei taken out before May 2019, overshot the psychological threshold of 8%, growing to 8.01% a year on Monday (August 1), BNR data showed.
COMPANIES & MARKET
-Following the new fiscal measures adopted by the Government, a survey was conducted by the National Council of Small and Medium Sized Private Enterprises in Romania (CNIPMMR). The results of the survey showed that almost half (47.7%) of the employers who will downsize in the next period will give up all part-time employees.
-The Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) kicked off the new trading week in the green, with a transaction value of 45.36 million RON (9.205 million euros) and the bluechip BET index up 0.55%.
-Romanian natural gas producer Romgaz said on Monday completed the acquisition of US energy giant Exxon Mobil’s 50% stake in the Black Sea offshore project Neptun Deep for $1.06 billion.
