POLITICS

-National leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Marcel Ciolacu said on Monday that the future PSD presidential candidate will be elected by each chapter and that he would accept a person from outside the party for such position.

-Minister of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu will participate on Monday, in the Belgian capital of Brussels, in the meeting of the heads of diplomacies of the EU member states – Foreign Affairs Council.

ECONOMY

– Last year, about 526,000 customers received compensation from electricity distributors, in a total amount of about 24.8 million lei, for the problems they encountered with the network, according to a report by the Energy Regulatory Authority ( ANRE).

– Romania’s economy will expand by 3.9% in 2022. For 2023, however, a downward revision to 2.9% is warranted, in line with the slower global and EU growth prospects, according to the Summer Forecast published by the European Commission.

-The Finance Ministry on Monday raised RON715.2 million via a government paper issue with a nominal value of RON300 million, due in October 2030, at an average yield of 9.17%.

COMPANIES & MARKET

-French DIY retailer Leroy Merlin has a cautious investment strategy for the coming period, given the current economic context, but is set to focus on network expansion in Romania where it currently has 20 units.

-The entertainment and media (E&M) industry in Romania is expected to achieve year-on-year growth of 10% to a total value of EUR 3,4 billion in 2022, with most segments expected to grow, according to the 23rd edition of the PwC “Global Entertainment & Media Outlook 2022−2026” (GEMO).
