POLITICS

-President Klaus Iohannis declared, on Friday, regarding the project adopted by the Senate regarding the increase in the allowances of dignitaries, that it does not seem fair that they should be the first to benefit from salary increases.

-On an official visit to South Korea, Romania’s Defence Minister Vasile Dincu had a meeting on Friday with his Korean counterpart Lee Jong-Sup mainly on the development of defence co-operation between the two countries.

ECONOMY

-Private lending in Romania increased by 15.9% in August y-o-y to RON359 billion, as local currency lending grew by 16.8% and foreign currency lending expressed in lei by 13.8%, National Bank of Romania data showed on Friday.

-Romania would borrow 60 million euros from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), for a project aimed at reducing pollution from agricultural sources, according to the Government.

COMPANIES & MARKET

-ArcelorMittal Hunedoara, the steel mill owned by the world’s leading steel and mining company ArcelorMittal group, recorded a loss of RON42.7 million in the first half, up from the RON19.3 million in the same period of 2021, according to its half-year report published on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
