POLITICS
-The Government approved on Wednesday (Nov. 2) the draft law on the organization and operation of the National Informatics System for Alerts and Romania’s accession to the Schengen Information System, as well as on the modification and supplementing of of GEO no. 194/2002 on the regime of foreigners in Romania, Agerpres reported.
-The president of the Swiss Confederation, Ignazio Cassis, postponed the official visit he was supposed to make, on Thursday (Nov. 3), to Romania, due to unforeseen reasons that cannot be postponed related to his agenda, the Swiss Embassy in Romania wrote on Facebook.
-The Minister of the French Armed Forces, Sebastien Lecornu, will be on an official visit to Romania on Thursday (Nov. 3), according to the Ministry of National Defense (MApN).
ECONOMY
-Romania’s seasonally adjusted unemployment edged up to 5.2% in September 2022 from 5.1% the previous month, but the youth jobless rate stays significantly high, at 22.8% according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
-Industrial producer prices (domestic market and foreign market) decreased by 1% in September 2022 compared to the previous month, while surging 46.7% higher y-o-y, according to INS.
-New car registrations in Romania stood at 105,817 units in the first ten months of 2022, up 8.19% y-o-y, data from the association of automotive manufacturers in Romania (ACAROM) and of Romania’s General Directorate for Driving Licenses and Car Registration (DRPCIV) showed.
-Gas production in Romania reached 6.7 billion cubic meters in January-September 2022, up slightly from 6.6 billion cubic meters in the same period a year ago, data provided by the national natural gas transmission company Transgaz showed.
COMPANIES & MARKETS
-The Romanian mergers and acquisitions (M&A) market recorded 169 transactions in January-September 2022, up 18% y-o-y, according to an analysis by EY.
-Bucharest-headquartered OMV Petrom, the largest integrated energy company in Southern and Eastern Europe, posted RON2.9 billion operating result on the gas and energy segment in the first nine months of 2022, almost 7 times higher than in the same period a year ago. The company also announced the completion of the share capital increase operation, with the new level of RON6.23 billion, being registered with the National Trade Register Office.
-Romania represents the second market as value for collaborations at European level after France, with contracts of over two billion euro signed with constructions companies from Italy, according to the representatives of the Italian Association of Constructions Companies (ANCE).
SOCIAL
– Rising prices worry Romanians more than other concerns within society. More than half of them (58%) declare that it will be very difficult for them to pay utility bills in the coming winter, and 50% are worried that they will not be able to heat their home, a study by Reveal Marketing Research finds.
