POLITICS
-Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca affirmed, on Monday, in a message sent on the occasion of the Romanian Navy Day, that the security of the region is vital for Romania’s security.
-The minister of energy informed on Friday that several projects of the Transgaz Company were sent to the European Bank for Investments (BEI) to be financed.
ECONOMY
-In the first six months of 2022, Romania imported 1.067 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe) of usable natural gas, down 17.1% (220,700 toe) y-o-y, National Institute of Statistics (INS) data showed on Tuesday.
-The government debt as of end-May 2022 stood at RON 614.338 billion, up from RON 602.871 billion in the previous month, Finance Ministry data show. The government debt-to-GDP ratio rose to 50% from 49.2% at the end of April.
-The National Strategy and Forecast Commission (CNSP) estimates an increase of 11.3% in this year’s average net monthly salary to 3,838 RON (775 EUR), compared to an advance of 10.8% and a salary of 3,822 RON, as per its spring projection.
COMPANIES & MARKET
-Bucharest listed-Transelectrica, the operator of the national energy transmission system, ended the first half of the year with a net profit of RON28 million, down 73% y-o-y.
-A partnership between Timisoara International Airport “Traian Vuia” (AIT) and the UAE-based Abu Dhabi Ports Group could see the former overhaul and develop its cargo infrastructure to become a regional commercial hub.
-Business in industry has gone up by 26.8% during the first semester of this year, y-o-y especially as a result of activities in the extractive industry, which registered a leap of 136%, INS data showed.
