-Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca stated that the Justice Laws voted on Monday in Parliament “lay the foundations for a true modernization of the system, align justice with European principles and strengthen its independence” Agerpres reported.
-The Minister of National Defense, Vasile Dincu, is paying an official visit to Tbilisi, the Republic of Georgia, on Monday and Tuesday, at the invitation of his counterpart, Juansher Burchuladze, according to the Defense Ministry.
-The Acting President of the Senate, Alina Gorghiu, is making a working visit to France, October 18 to 22, where she will meet her French counterpart, Gerard Larcher, to discuss Romania’s accession to the Schengen Area.
ECONOMY
-Romania’s finance ministry on Monday (Oct 17) reopened a bond issue due in 2034 and borrowed RON493 million from banks, above the planned level of RON400 million, at an annual average yield of 9.33%.
-Over 60,000 houses sold throughout Romania in September, most of them in Bucharest, Ilfov and Timis, the National Agency for Cadastre and Real Estate Advertising (ANCPI) announced.
-Romania’s three-month ROBOR index, the interbank interest rate used as a reference to calculate variable interests for loans in lei taken out before May 2019, on Tuesday, climbed to 8.18% from 8.17% on Monday.

-Romanian cosmetics market to increase by 2.3% a year until 2026, according to an analysis by Virtual Board. By comparison, the average annual pace in 2015-2021 was 3.1%, according to the same source.
– Oradea Airport management presented on Tuesday a project for the development and modernization of airport infrastructure of 132 million lei, of which 95 million lei represent European financing through Large Infrastructure Operational Program 2014-2020.
-The turnover of retail and HORECA distributors in Romania grew by 27% compared to 2020 and was 46, 5% above the level in 2017, to RON 21, 1 billion in 2021, a KeysFin survey revealed.
