-Justice Minister Catalin Predoiu on Tuesday welcomed Finnish ambassador in Bucharest Marjut Akola. The two officials discussed the latest developments in Romania’s draft justice legislation and the protection of whistleblowers, as well as bilateral co-operation.
– Minister of Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MAT) Constantin-Daniel Cadariu said on Tuesday that the Woman Entrepreneur Program will be launched on Thursday, and one of the main objectives is that of stimulating and supporting private economic structures founded and led by women.
ECONOMY
-In the first semester of 2022, as against the same period of the previous year, the Gross Domestic Product increased by 5.8 % both for the unadjusted series and the seasonally adjusted series, according to flash estimates published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
-The assets of the private pension funds operating on the mandatory segment in Romania (Pillar II) stood at RON92.4 billion in August, up by RON5 billion than the level at mid-2022, recovering over half of the loss amassed in 2022, according to calculations by the Romanian association for private pensions APAPR.
-Romania’s three-month ROBOR index, the interbank interest rate used as a reference to calculate variable interests for loans in lei taken out before May 2019, inched up to 7.98% a year on Wednesday (August 17), higher by two basis points than 7.96% recorded on Tuesday (Aug 16), National Bank of Romania data showed.

– The consolidated net profit of Transgaz, Romania’s National Company for Natural Gas Transmission, stood at 177.278 million RON, higher by 33% after the first half of this year, while the turnover was higher by 47.48%, to 1.178 billion RON, according to the report sent by the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
-There are 7,190 companies that suspended their business in H1 2022 in Romania, up 18.98% y-o-y, according to data released by the National Companies Registry Office (ONRC).
