POLITICS

-The chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), Marcel Ciolacu, told TV channel Antena3 on Tuesday that in his opinion, a Government reshuffle is needed until the end of this year.

-The government wants to increase by 50% the prize money for athletes who win medals at international competitions, Radio Romania reported. Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca specified that the normative act will be adopted in next week’s meeting.

ECONOMY

-The Romanian state will gain this year over 43 billion RON from taxes and dividends paid by the energy sector, as a result of the price hikes, according to the president of Romania’s Energy Suppliers Association (AFEER) Laurentiu Urluescu Agerpres reported.

-The US dollar went up to the all-time high against the Romanian leu at 4.9225 on on Tuesday (August 23) according to the National Bank of Romania.

-As many as 70,028 new motor vehicles were registered in Romania between January-July 2022, up 12.1% y-o-y, the Association of Automobile Manufacturers and Importers (APIA) data showed.

COMPANIES & MARKET

-The operator of the largest bulk raw material handling terminal in the Black Sea area, Constanta’s Comvex, intends to disburse additional dividends of RON21.57 million from the undistributed 2021 profit or a gross dividend of RON1.8508 per share, Ziarul Financiar reported.

-Exports of maize, the main agri-food commodity exported by Romania, may drop by 2 mln tonnes this year, according to the projections included in the latest report of the US Department of Agriculture.

-About 500,000 logistic areas rented in first half of 2022 in Romania, according to a report of real estate consulting company CBRE Romania.
