POLITICS
-The Senate and the Chamber of Deputies were convened for Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the second ordinary parliamentary session of 2022.
-Prime Minister Ciuca said on Tuesday that depending on the evolution of budget collections and on coalition talks, a decision will be made regarding the proposed social package, Agerpres reported.
-The chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), Marcel Ciolacu, in a post on his Facebook page, said that his party will take all measures to protect the citizens and the companies that produce in Romania, so that they can face the situation produced by the energy crisis.
ECONOMY
-The national unemployment rate stood at 2.56% in July, up by 0.01 percentage points compared to the previous month and down 0.40 pp y-o-y, according to the National Agency for Employment (ANOFM).
-Romania imported in the first half of 2022 electricity in the amount of 3.845 billion kWh, up 12%, y-o-y National Institute of Statistics (INS) data showed.
-A total of 73% of Romanians expect a significant economic crisis in the coming period, a survey carried out by Avangarde at the request of news platform G4Media.ro showed.
COMPANIES & MARKET
-The number of companies and self-employed persons (PFAs) going insolvent increased by 11.14% to 3,932, in the January-July 2022 period y-o-y, National Trade Register Office (ONRC) data showed.
-Bank of Cyprus liquidated its activities in Romania by selling its last portfolio of nonperforming loans and real estate. The assets worth roughly EUR 147 mln were acquired by the APS group in a transaction that was signed in May 2022 and finalized on August 24, 2022.
