CAPITAL MARKET COMMENTARY

Most Bucharest stock indices closed lower on Thursday with Digi Communications N.V. leading the blue-chip decliners. The telecommunication group’s shares plunged 2.14% to close at 32.0000 points. Stocks suffered severe losses Thursday worldwide following the U.S. Federal Reserve’s latest policy update. The European Central Bank (ECB) also revealed on Thursday that it had decided to increase its key interest rates by 50 basis points, with ECB President Christine Lagarde saying that the ECB has “more ground to cover” to bring inflation down than the U.S. Federal Reserve.

11:15 The losses suffered by Romania due to the fact that it does not enter the Schengen area exceed the sum of 25 billion euros, Minister of Internal Affairs Lucian Bode said on Thursday, at the meeting of all the heads of the Gendarmerie structures in Europe, in Bucharest, Agerpres reported.

10:19 Romania’s industrial production decreased by 0.9% in unadjusted data in January-October 2022 y-o-y and by 1.4% when adjusted for seasonality and number of working days, National Institute of Statistics data showed.

14:02 Retailers are expected to see declines of 5% to 20% in the number of products sold in December 2022 compared to the same month a year ago, but they will see almost 5% higher revenues amid hot inflation, according to analysis by White Image, the largest email marketing agency in Romania.

11:32 The Bucharest Stock Exchange currently has 370 listed companies, registering total capitalization of around RON150 billion, as well as 140 listed bond issues, according to Radu Hanga, BVB president.

09:01 The Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MAT) will develop an IT system for the efficiency of authorization and control activities in the field of tourism, whose database will be interconnected with other national systems, such as National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF), National Trade Registry Office (ONRC) and the Electronic Single Point of Contact (PCUe), MAT said.

Iasi city Mayor Mihai Chirica was placed by the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) prosecutors under judicial control for a period of 60 days, after the hearing in a file in which several employees of the Iasi City Hall are being investigated regarding the authorization of some constructions, Agerpres reported.
