CAPITAL MARKET COMMENTARY

Bucharest stocks closed in the green on Tuesday after the Christmas holiday weekend, mirroring the trend across Europe where markets advanced as upbeat sentiment continues in the final trading days of 2022. Stocks in Europe received a boost from their counterparts in Asia-Pacific. In Bucharest, Medlife led the blue-chip gainers. The company’s shares advanced 1.39% to close at 17.5600 points.

16:37 The unemployment rate stood at 3.04% for November-end, 2022, at national level, which is a higher figure compared with that recorded in October, by 0.08%, according to the National Employment Authority (ANOFM).

15:55 The deficit of the general consolidated budget increased by 4.2% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), in Jan-Nov. 2022, from 3.37% of the GDP, at October-end, Finance Ministry (MF) data showed.

13:01 Romania can avoid a recession next year, but GDP growth will be much lower – probably between 1.5-2.5%, compared to approximately 5% in 2022, according to the chairman of the Fiscal Council, Daniel Daianu.
