In a positive development for Romania’s capital market, FTSE Russell’s biannual review, effective March 2025, reveals continued confidence in listed Romanian companies. All 11 existing companies within the FTSE Global All Cap and FTSE Global Micro Cap indices for Emerging Markets have retained their positions.
Notably, Aquila Part Prod Com (AQ), Arobs Transilvania Software (AROBS), and Sphera Franchise Group (SFG) will be re-included in the FTSE Global Micro Cap index, meeting the necessary liquidity and size criteria. This expansion will result in 14 Romanian companies featured in FTSE Russell indices: nine in the FTSE Global All Cap (including major players like Banca Transilvania and Hidroelectrica) and five in the FTSE Global Micro Cap.
”Maintaining the presence of Romanian companies in the FTSE Russell Emerging Markets indices, as well as the re-inclusion of the three companies, is important considering that last year was not an easy context. The fact that we will be present in these indices with a larger number of Romanian companies from different sectors of the economy is beneficial for the local capital market. We are happy with this achievement, which reconfirms the attractiveness of our capital market and we want to see as many Romanian companies as possible included in these global indices”, stated Adrian Tanase, CEO of Bucharest Stock Exchange.
The evolution of the Romanian capital market has been internationally recognized by the global index provider FTSE Russell and, starting with 2020, Romania was promoted to Emerging Market status, which opened the way for the local capital market to a much broader investment universe. Strengthening the Emerging Market status, by increasing the number of Romanian companies included in these indices, is one of the main objectives of BVB as it will contribute to attracting substantial funds to listed companies and, implicitly, to the Romanian economy.
At the same time, in the global provider MSCI indices, MSCI Frontier IMI, MSCI Romania IMI, MSCI Frontier and MSCI Romania, Romania will be present, as of March 1, 2025, with 36 companies. Currently, Romania is classified by MSCI as a Frontier Market.
