Two new Romanian companies join MSCI Frontier Markets indices

The Romanian capital market is gaining more recognition on the international stage

Starting March 1, 2025, the representation of the Romanian capital market in the MSCI indices will expand. Holdingrock1 (ROC1) and Sinteza (STZ), two companies listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange, will be included in the MSCI Frontier IMI and MSCI Romania IMI indices. These indices include Small Cap, Mid Cap, and Large Cap companies, providing a more comprehensive view of the Romanian market

They will be joined also by TTS Transport Trade Services (TTS), a company that is currently part of the MSCI Frontier and MSCI Romania indices, indices that include only Mid Cap and Large Cap companies. TTS will be classified in the Small Cap category and included in the MSCI Frontier IMI and MSCI Romania IMI indices, as the company’s capitalization was below the maintenance threshold for the Mid Cap category that was determined by MSCI within the framework of the current review.

Thus, the representation of the Romanian capital market in the MSCI Frontier Markets indices will increase from 34 to 36 companies, starting with the 1st of March, 2025. The changes follow as a result of the quarterly index review conducted by global index provider MSCI, following the results which were published on Tuesday, 11th of February.

MSCI is one of the leading providers of global benchmark indices. Romania is currently classified by MSCI as a Frontier Market.

In the MSCI indices dedicated to Frontier Markets, Romania will be represented starting with March 1, 2025, by 36 listed companies: Alro (ALR), Banca Transilvania (TLV), BRD Groupe Societe Generale (BRD), Conpet (COTE), Compa (CMP), Digi Communications (DIGI), DN Agrar Group (DN), Hidroelectrica (H2O), IAR SA Brasov (IARV), Impact Developer and Contractor (IMP) Nuclearelectrica (SNN), OMV Petrom (SNP), Romgaz (SNG), Electrica (EL), MedLife (M), One United Properties (ONE), Teraplast (TRP), Transelectrica (TEL), Transgaz (TGN), TTS Transport Trade Services (TTS), Arobs Transilvania Software (AROBS), Bittnet Systems (BNET), Bursa de Valori Bucuresti (BVB), Prebet Aiud (PREB), Prospectiuni (PRSN), Purcari Wineries (WINE), Safetech Innovations (SAFE), Simtel Team (SMTL), Sphera Franchise Group (SFG), 2B Intelligent Soft (BENTO), Premier Energy (PE), Electromagnetica (ELMA), Iproeb Bistrita (IPRU), ROCA Industry Holdingrock1 (ROC 1), Sinteza (STZ) and Turbomecanica (TBM).

The inclusion of the new companies is likely to attract more international investors to the Bucharest Stock Exchange, potentially increasing trading activity and boosting market capitalization. It’s a positive sign for the development and maturity of the Romanian capital market.

Romania is classified as an Emerging Market by the global indices provider FTSE Russell, being represented in these indices by 11 companies: Banca Transilvania, Electrica, Hidroelectrica, MedLife, Nuclearelectrica, OMV Petrom, One United Properties, Teraplast, Bursa de Valori Bucuresti, Purcari Wineries and Transport Trade Services.
