Warsaw Stock Exchange Breaks Records as WIG Tops 100,000 Points

April 2025 Marks Historic Milestones Across Equity, ETF, and Bond Markets on GPW

The Warsaw Stock Exchange (GPW) recorded one of its strongest months ever in April 2025. Main Market equity turnover reached PLN 44.5 billion, a 33.4% increase year-on-year. Within this, EOB turnover totaled PLN 43.1 billion (+37.6% YoY), with average daily equity turnover rising 44.5% to PLN 2.15 billion.

A defining moment came on 24 April, when the WIG index surpassed the symbolic 100,000-point threshold for the first time in its history, closing at 100,115. With gains of over 26.7% year-to-date, GPW remains one of the world’s top-performing equity markets in 2025—an indicator of strong investor confidence in the Polish economy.

Meanwhile, NewConnect saw a decline in activity. Turnover fell 13.3% YoY to PLN 119.9 million, while EOB turnover dropped 14.6% to PLN 115.2 million.

GlobalConnect, on the other hand, reported record momentum again in April. Equity turnover reached PLN 20.4 million, significantly up from PLN 2.4 million in April 2024.

ETF, Bonds, and Derivatives See Surge in Activity

April also marked a record-breaking month for ETFs and ETCs, whose total turnover reached PLN 366 million, a year-on-year surge of 194.1%. This reflects the success of the GPW’s fee reduction program for Exchange Members launched in December 2024, as well as growing investor interest in passive strategies.

Structured products also grew, with turnover up 22.6% YoY to PLN 310.5 million.

In the derivatives market, turnover reached 1.1 million instruments, up 5.6% YoY. Index futures led the segment (617,500 contracts, +1.2%), followed by currency futures (227,000, +12.4%) and single-stock futures (138,400, +12.5%).

The debt market continued to thrive. Non-Treasury bonds listed on Catalyst reached a value of PLN 136 billion, while Catalyst EOB bond turnover soared 73.7% to PLN 756.3 million. Treasury BondSpot turnover jumped 180.7% YoY to PLN 115.9 billion.

April also saw five new bond listings on Catalyst, including issuers like the City of Kalisz, Municipality of Prażmów, and 7R S.A., whose green bonds were valued at PLN 150 million.

GPW’s total market capitalisation in April stood at PLN 1.92 trillion, with domestic companies alone accounting for PLN 916.3 billion.
