Southeast European markets closed mixed on Wednesday, as investors awaited the outcome of the US Federal Reserve’s monetary policy meeting, widely expected to deliver a rate cut. Against this backdrop, Southeast European bourses also showed a divided performance: Romania, Cyprus, and North Macedonia gained ground, while Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia edged lower. Bosnia’s exchanges ended in opposite directions, with Sarajevo posting a slight advance and Banja Luka retreating.


In Sarajevo, the 10-share SASX-10 advanced 0.11%.


The Banja Luka Stock Exchange’s BIRS index was lower by 0.23% settling at 826,23 points. Turnover totaled BAM 1.278,72 while the exchange’s market capitalization hovered around BAM 1.004.224.629,83.


In Sofia, the main equity index SOFIX lost 0.53% settling at 1 065.42 points. The total turnover on the Bulgarian Stock Exchange’s market (including the Main, Alternative, beam and MTF BSE International markets) stood at EUR 1 737 131 (BGN 3 397 534).


The Zagreb Stock Exchange’s CROBEX index lost 0.26% to settle at 3,828.78 points. Turnover stood at EUR 2,321,043.70.


Cyprus’ general index was up 0.28% to end the session at 290.44 points. Total stock volume amounted to EUR 799,022.63 across 204 transactions. Of the listed companies, 7 posted gains, 5 declined, 1 remained unchanged, and 35 were not traded.


In Athens, the general index dropped 0.69% to finish at 2,019.26 points. Aegean Airlines led blue-chip decliners as its shares plunged 2.84%.


The Moldova Stock Exchange saw no trading activity today.


In Podgorica, Montenegro’s stock exchange MNSE 10 index was off 0.41% settling at 1.163,91 points. The stock PREN was the hit of the day, closing at a price of €1.17. It recorded a total trading volume of €4.721,51 executed through three transactions.


North Macedonia’s MBI-10 index added 0.22% settling at 10,463.88 points. The market capitalization stood at MKD 272,601,529,984.


Bucharest’s benchmark BET index was higher by 0.84%, closing at 20,869.29 points. Among blue-chip stocks, OMV Petrom led gainers as its shares jumped 2.11%. Read full Romania Market Report here.

The Belgrade Stock Exchange’s BELEX15 index fell 0.29% finishing at 496.330.877.459 points. Market capitalisation stood at RSD 496.330.877.459

Finally, in Ljubljana, the SBITOP index lost 0.46% to end at 2,481.36 points. Turnover stood at EUR 3,040,764.10.
